Freshman Friday: Heilmann skis the slopes of high school

March 18, 2016

Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student population the opportunity to get to know its freshman class. Read below to learn about this week’s freshman, Cate Heilmann.

What sports do you play?

I do skiing and dance.

What is your favorite thing about skiing?

I love being with the team, and racing is so much fun.

How long have you been skiing?

My dad taught me how to ski when I was 2 or 3, and I started racing when I was 5 or 6.

What is your favorite thing about dancing?

Dance is fun because I have made new friends in all my classes at Bella Via. My teachers are amazing and so incredibly helpful. It is really cool to watch myself and my classmates improve. The annual June recital is so much fun, and the costumes are so pretty.

When did you start dancing?

I danced when I was little at Mirror Image. Then I quit to do other things, until sixth grade in 2012 when I joined Bella Via.

Do you have any siblings?

I have two older brothers. Matt is a senior at Homestead and Jake is a freshman at UW-Madison.

Do you have any pets?

I have a dog named Murphy. He is a 6 year old West Highland White Terrier. He barks too much.

If you could be a sandwich, what type would you be?

I would definitely be a Turkey Tom from Jimmy Johns. Those are the bomb.

If you could fill an empty pool with anything what would it be?

MELTED CHOCOLATE. That would be amazing.

What has been your favorite part of high school so far?

I have had a lot of new opportunities and I have met tons of new people. Color guard and ski team are so much fun. Also, I have had some good teachers and classes. Especially Latin with Magis (Magistra Wallach).

What are you looking forward to most about the next three years?

I am definitely looking forward to ski team and being able to drive. Also, I am excited for deciding where I want to go to college and what I want to study.
