On Wednesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 5, Homestead’s Acting 2 classes performed two plays: one staged after the movie Mean Girls and one after the television show Parks and Recreation.

The fifth hour class performed a condensed version of the beloved Mean Girls after only a month of practice. Eda Günes, senior, played the lead role, Cady Heron, the new student who quickly becomes part of “the Plastics, the most popular and glamorous group in all of high school. Mary Kate Simon, junior, played Regina George, the ruthless leader of the Plastics. Dani Kenwood, junior, portrayed character Janis Ian, who befriends Cady before she becomes part of the Plastics. “The play was so much fun to produce and our entire class got really into character and bonded,” Simon said.

“It was a great learning experience for the class and a fantastic jumping-off point for some promising young actors,” Eric Fretty, junior and director of the play, added.

The first hour class performed two scenes from the television show Parks and Recreation. The first scene was based on a trial of main character Leslie Knope, who was played by Haley Stevens, junior. The second scene was a recreation of the announcement of Knope’s pregnancy. Joey Pietrowiak, freshman, played character Ben Wyatt, Knope’s husband.

“Although there were a few mistakes made here and there, which is always the glorious beauty of performing live theater, everyone pulled through for one another, ultimately making our month of hard work a success,” Stevens said.
