Matt Winters, junior, competes in the 50 yard dash at the open Invite in the Homestead field house on Wednesday, March 18th.

On Tuesday, March 24, the Homestead boys track team will participate in the indoor conference championship in the Homstead field house at 4 PM. “The boys track teams in the North Shore Conference (NSC) are balanced with no team favorite this early in the season,” Coach Todd Brawner said. Although it is early in the season, this meet could be a preview of whom the team to beat is in the conference.

The indoor season is not the main event for the Highlanders; the team likes to focus more on the outdoor season, so meets like these are good practice for the boys. “We always build toward the outdoor season when we can compete in all 18 events,” Coach Brawner said.

Coming off of a successful meet at Carthage, the boys team looks to improve on their times and place well in the indoor conference championship. The team this is year is fairly young but still show promise for a successful season. “We don’t have the depth that we’ve had in previous years, but we still have tremendous ability to perform well,” Patrick Minkin, junior, said. Minkin is referred to as a “stud” of the team by Coach Brawner, due to his strong talent in sprinting events.

According to Minkin, the upcoming meet on Tuesday should be very competitive, but the Highlanders have been practicing well and intend to succeed. “Coach Brawner has been preparing us well for the meet, and we are excited to compete and get to the outdoor season,” Matt Winters, junior, said.
