The varsity swim season is well underway. The team has practiced hard in preparation for its meet this Saturday. “Our team is really prepared for this,” Talia Gottlieb, junior, said. “I’m really excited.”

The girls varsity swim season is well underway, bringing its well anticipated meet, The Highlander.  Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 am, the girls will be competing at Homestead.

Teams will be traveling from all over Wisconsin to participate in this race.  Teams competing include Appleton West, Arrowhead, Cedarburg, Madison La Follette, Verona, as well as 10 other schools.

Homestead has beat every team in their conference so far when participating in dual matches, though hasn’t had the opportunity to challenge Cedarburg yet. “We have had intense practices this week as we know this will be one of our most difficult meets ,” Clara Huskin, sophomore, said.

While the team has done quite well throughout the season so far, schools from all over Wisconsin, such as Madison, have been challenging to overcome in previous years.  “I believe our coach has prepared us well,” Alex Buchanan, sophomore, said.  “We have practiced hard this year and I think we are ready.”  This usually proves to be a difficult meets for the Highlanders as it is late in the season and the competition is much greater than usual.

“I find it interesting that the Wisconsin coaches association doesn’t recognize Homestead swimmers or divers right now, which actually plays in our favor because we are going to surprise a lot of people,” Chris Fox, coach, said.  The team remains positive despite ambiguity from opposing schools.

Homestead has high hopes and believes the team can conquer the meet with dedication and the right mindset.
