Baseball team looks toward doubleheader

June 5, 2015

After a 14-2 victory over the Germantown Warhawks, the 5-2 boys baseball team looks to continue their winning streak with a doubleheader against Wauwatosa West and Wauwatosa East on Saturday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively at Breitlow Field in Wauwatosa.

This doubleheader is a part of the Wauwatosa West Wood Bat Invite featuring Homestead, Port Washington, Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West.

“We expect Tosa to be good competition,”Jared Stieve, senior, said. Therefore, in order to continue their streak, the Highlander baseball team wants to work on its offense before this non-conference meeting because their batting has been behind in the first part of their season, according to Trevor Cho, senior.

“The Homestead bullpen is also working to keep its pitches low in practice to prepare for the doubleheader,” Stieve, said.

According to Coach Mateske, Wauwatosa West head baseball coach, the 2-5 Wauwatosa West Trojans will be ready to play two games in one day after playing a rigorous five game schedule this week.

“I always look forward to playing Homestead.  They are a top notch program year in and year out,”Coach Mateske said. “Coach Millard does a great job getting as much baseball talent out of his players as he can.”

The 1-6 Wauwatosa East Red Raiders are coming off of a 8-6 win last night at West Bend East and hope to build off of that momentum as Coach Brian Karas, Wauwatosa East baseball coach, stated.

“With it being a double header early in the season, we are looking to give some of our core players some significant innings to keep moving to build consistency offensively and defensively, and to give some of our bench players some good innings to keep them fresh as we enter the bulk of our conference season next week,” Coach Karas, said.

Come see the Highlanders take on the Trojans and Red Raiders this weekend at Breitlow Field in Wauwatosa.
