December 11, 2015

Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student population the opportunity to get to know its freshman class. Read below to learn about this week’s freshman, Zach Teplin.

What sports do you play?

I do soccer and swimming.

What position do you play on the boys varsity soccer team?

I play defense.

What did you enjoy most about the soccer season?

I had so much fun playing and being with all the older guys on my soccer team.

What strokes do you swim?

I swim the butterfly and freestyle.

What are you most excited for in the upcoming swim season?

I am really excited to have the Homestead swim coach. I had him when I was younger so it’s fun to have him again.

How long have you been swimming for?

I started about when I was five, but I have been swimming competitively since I was eight or nine.

What is your favorite thing about swimming?

My favorite thing is that I get to push myself as an individual but it’s also being part of a team and pushing each other. There’s also something about getting up before school to practice with the same people and all struggling together.

Do you have any siblings?

I have one brother in eighth grade named Josh.

If you could be a sandwich, what kind would you be?

I would be a double bacon cheeseburger from Kopp’s Custard.

What have you enjoyed most about high school so far?

The classes are more interesting than middle school and it’s fun to be with a bunch of different people.

What are you looking forward to most about the rest of your high school career?

I am really looking forward to meeting more new people, going to sporting events, picking fun classes and just taking it all in.
