Honored to share skills in Hawaii

“Over spring break, we went to Honolulu and the Big Island. The best moment was arriving at the airport in Honolulu and feeling the hot weather!

We did a lot of things while we were there. We marched in two parades, and performed at Pearl Harbor. We also took the time to do non-band related things! We hung out on beaches, hiked Diamond Head Crater and walked around a volcano.

One night, Mr. Spindler, Homestead’s band director, went on a stage with other high school band directors, and danced in a coconut bra and a bright pink grass skirt. We all thought it was so funny.

Something that this trip made me realize was that we all should have paid more attention in band class when we were practicing. It was a huge honor to play in the parades, and especially to be able to play at Pearl Harbor.

Overall, it was really cool playing for strangers, because we usually just play at school or community events for people we know. This was a totally different crowd, and an extremely different atmosphere, so it was a really special experience.” (Lily Zall, sophomore)
