The Homestead girls lacrosse team celebrates after its inaugural game.

Girls lacrosse improves as season progresses

April 21, 2016

The Homestead girls lacrosse team competed in its fourth game of its inaugural season on Tuesday, April 19, falling to University School of Milwaukee 10 – 3. Coach Lisa Beltramello, girls lacrosse head coach, said, “The game against USM went really well. We may have lost but the scoreboard did not reflect the game at all.”

According to Rachel Mortenson, sophomore, “We are still getting used to the game as well as rules, but once we catch on, we will be incredible. Playing teams like University School, who have been playing for years, gives every single girl on our team the chance to really try hard and push herself.”

Coach Beltramello said, “Andrea Griffin absolutely dominated in goal for us and helped keep us in the game.”

“With only a few games under their belts, the team has shown a lot of improvement, especially our balanced attack and on defensive man-on-man coverage,” Alex Buchanan, sophomore, said.

While looking toward the rest of the season, Coach Beltramello said, “The future for this team is very bright. The players are really catching on and understanding the sport. After each game I have had coaches come up to me saying how impressed they are with Homestead as a first-year program. With the talent level and the work ethic, Homestead girls lacrosse is going to be a force to be reckoned with.”

The girls lacrosse team’s next game is on Monday, April 25 against Arrowhead at Homestead.
