10 things that tell you the end of school is near

Attaining the motivation to get up and out of bed is becoming harder and harder. Instead of jumping up at the first ring of their alarm clock, students find themselves stalling until the very last minute to get ready for school, and then they find themselves extremely rushed. “For me, getting out of bed is like being between a rock and a hard place, except it’s between my mattress and my blanket,” Mitch Lauenstein, senior, said.
The weather grows warmer, the days become longer and the amount of time that one spends outside is significantly greater than the amount of time spent behind a desk doing homework.
The number of times one opens his or her backpack–well, that number is zero. The only times one’s opening his or her backpack are between the hours of 7:25 a.m. and 2:37 p.m. During any other time, one’s backpack is not to be messed with or dealt with.
Windows down, radio up. As soon as the weather is 50 degrees or above, students should drive with their windows down and their music blaring, taking advantage of the gorgeous weather and getting ready for the upcoming summer with some bumping tunes.
Searching for a summer job is hectic since all of the good ones are being snatched up by other high school and college students. The anticipation of hearing back from potential employers builds up like nothing else. When students finally attain that job they’ve been wanting, a wave of relief washes over them because they know their summer is set.
All sports are finally making their way outside. Feeling the warm spring air in one’s face uncovers a newfound love for playing his or her sport. Practices seem shorter and the season goes by faster when one’s outside. And while students are at it, they may even get a slight tan going.
Students begin to count down the number of days left until the year is done. They’re the first ones to answer a teacher whenever they ask how many school days are left until school is out. They’re those people excitedly enlightening others about the shrinking amount of school left.
“There are 27 days, 11 hours and 35 minutes until school is out. I have this app on my phone counting everything down,” Zanelle Willemse, sophomore, said.
Students find themselves admiring the beauty of Wisconsin. The lush plant life is sprouting, and more and more birds seem to be chirping. Wisconsin’s nature is truly captivating once it finally blossoms, even if it is only for a few short months.
Students want to just raise their arms above their heads in celebration. School is almost out. Summer is almost here.

Students daydream about the stress-free, homework-free, test-free, school-free, sun-filled life that awaits them in a short time, so close they can almost feel it. They put together an exciting summer bucket list filled with adventurous plans they are going to do throughout this upcoming summer.
