Girls gymnastics welcomes new coaches
November 10, 2016
Tristi March and Jordan Ireland are the new faces of the girls gymnastics program. The two new coaches are both students at Concordia University and both have gymnastics training.
While neither has coached high school before, they have experience teaching younger kids. On the new age group, March described that teaching high-schoolers “is a different set-up, different everything. So we are just trying to get into the groove and learn new things ourselves.”
Ireland has acknowledged that they have much to overcome this season, yet there is nothing they can’t work for. “It will take some time getting used to the girls and the girls getting used to us. It’s really about improving your skills, working on form and being better than we were last year,” Ireland explained.
As far as for the future, the coaches have big plans. “We really want to go to state, our goal is to go this year, but they haven’t gone in awhile, so we are just going to work up to it until we get there. So just keep working harder and harder,” March said. “I know a lot of the girls want to make it to state this year and I want to take them there.”
The gymnasts themselves are looking forward to the future as well.
“They are super cool and chill, yet they make us work really hard because they have big plans for us this season. They are close to our age, so they really know how to motivate us,” Emma Fox, sophomore, said.
