Boys track team anticipates successful season
March 16, 2017
The boys track team’s first meet of the season took place in the Homestead High School field house on Wednesday, March 15. Both varsity and junior varsity teams competed in the meet.
“I felt confident about this meet. Although we still need a little bit more training, we are looking really good,” Zion Bullock, senior, said.
At the scrimmage, Homestead athletes competed against students from Germantown, Grafton and Menomonee Falls. The team competed in events including the 55-meter dash, the 55-meter hurdles, the mile, pole vaulting, long jump and the four by one.
“This meet is more of a scrimmage where we are just getting ready for our regular season and getting prepared for the varsity meets. I think our season in general is going to be good. We lost a couple of seniors towards the distant side, but we definitely have a lot more sprinters,” Eric Rodd, sophomore, said.
The Highlanders dominated the track. For junior varsity, Jackson Rush, freshman, placed first in the fourth heat of the mile, and Morgan Seymour, freshman, tied in second in the 55-meter dash. For varsity, Jared Schneider, sophomore, took third in the 55-meter hurdles, and Harry Ward, junior, placed first in the first heat of the mile.
“We feel great about this scrimmage. Everybody gets to do two or three events and obviously hosting it at Homestead is easier on the kids. We started the season last week. We have had four practices, and overall the team looks solid, but it is hard to tell at this point,” Coach Todd Brawner said.
The boys compete next at a varsity invitational on Saturday, March 18.
“The team is doing really well and I think we have a really good shot this year. We have a lot of really good people in each event so I feel that as a team, we will do really well,” Casey Boehlke, sophomore, said.
