AP art department showcases students’ talent at Homestead

November 4, 2014

Starting last year, Homestead High School’s art department offered AP art classes to any student interested. The numbers increased from two students last year to fifteen students this year. AP art focuses on building portfolios for students who plan to pursue art in their future. “My favorite part about teaching an AP art class is to help student artists reach a new level and help them succeed in college. Last year was our first year presenting the class to students. I think now people are seeing AP art as an option, and I don’t think the number of students will drop in the future,” Mrs. Kat Hustedde, art teacher, added.

Students have worked last year and this year to build up their portfolios, take a look at some of their work below.

“Having people recognize who I am drawing is the most rewarding for me,” Amanda Albright, senior, added.

AP art proves to not only benefit the students but also the teachers. Mrs Katherine Nowak, art teacher, clarified, “For me it’s not the level of the artwork, but the personal satisfaction students get from their artwork.”
