Freshman Friday

April 30, 2015

“My personal mission statement is: If you’re not going to speak up, how is the world supposed to know you exist?” -Bella Scaffidi. Scaffidi describes herself outspoken, independent, and focused. Read all about Bella in this week’s Freshman Friday.

What has been your favorite Homestead event this year? Why?

Favorite event would definitely be relay for life. It was such a wonderful experience to see so many people gathered together to work toward mutual goal: ending cancer.

What clubs and activities have you been involved in?

This year I have been involved in debate, forensics, champions, GEMS, LEAD, best buddies, and orchestra. I hope to join robotics next year

Who is your favorite teacher and/or subject?

I’m torn on my favorite teachers… Definitely either Grimm, Mayerak, Cicero, Pfaff or Engle. My favorite subject is history; I find it so fascinating. Other than history I would definitely say English/writing– it allows me to make my thoughts coherent and voice my opinions.

Who is your role model?

I don’t believe in role models and I feel as though I need to become the person that I would want someone else to look up to. I feel the whole concept of role models is kind of off– we live our lives thinking we are great people because of the people we look up to but we rarely stop and actually make the change. I think in order to be the best person we can possibly be, we can’t wish to be like someone else. We have to motivate ourselves.

Where do you see yourself in four years?

In four years my dream would be to be attending Stanford university. I’ve wanted to attend Stanford for as long as I can remember.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would either be in politics, so I am able to continue my love for public speaking/debating and stand up for what I believe in, or I would want to go into photojournalism and photograph important historical events– like Syrian civil war, Yemen, etc because I believe nothing is more important than a photograph that moves people, or one that captures someone’s story. A photograph that tugs on your heart strings and encourages you to make a difference.

What is the most amazing vacation you have been on?

The most amazing vacation I’ve ever been on would have to be my trip to California with my friend Alyssa. We flew in to San Francisco and after exploring the city for a few days, we drove down to LA. We were lucky enough with our timing that we were able to drive through the mountains at sunset-a which was by far one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life it would be salad. You can mix it up in a ton of different ways and since I’m vegetarian I actually really like salad

What are your favorite hobbies?

My favorite hobbies would be photography, public speaking, debating, violin, and hiking or adventuring.

BELLA
