Swimmers dive into new season
The Homestead swim team hits the pool with a spring dive in. Goggles pulled tight, swim cap secured and everything sucked in from the swim suit, the swimmers are ready to plunge into the frigid water.
Megan Churchill, senior, reports her views on the season thus far. “Varsity’s goal this year is to get a relay and an individual event or two to state,” Churchill said. With solid intentions, the varsity team is well on their way to success.
The team captains on varsity are Rachel Paulmann, senior, and Jackie Chang, senior. Teammate, Lane Starret, senior, feels that both Paulmann and Chang are doing a really great job motivating everyone on the team.
On the other end of the pool is JV. Maddie Met, junior, exclaims, “We have an incredible group of girls! We work our butts off in the pool, but it all pays off when you improve your times from week to week!”
Churchill admits, “We also have a strong JV this year with a variety of strengths in strokes and events.”
Coach Chris Fox coaches the JV team, with Twinkle Dutta, senior, and Sarah Barr, senior, as team captains.
Both varsity and JV are off to a strong start to this season.

Thank you Mrs. Nickerson for your comment. So many times over the years I have wondered why Mark, the Banquet Arrangers and the Swimmers have overlooked the Divers. Many times they have had the points going in for the swimmers that have meant the difference between a win or not. My personal congratulations to Samantha and Coach Sara for being the only Homestead Highlander from the Swimming & Diving Team to go to State this year! Quite an accomplishment as a Freshman. I also want to congratulate Nicki, Brooke and Gaby for their marvelous efforts this year. Sara has enjoyed working with all of you. And, lastly, my sincere thanks to Nicki for the wonderful comments she said last night about Coach Sara. It meant a great deal to her and she will miss you as she misses all of her past Divers. The best to all of you in your future endeavors. Again, Mrs. Nickerson, thank you.

Please don’t forget the divers! They have won every event this season and Sami Nickerson has a very good chance to qualify to State Championships as a freshman.
