Instagram season kicks off

It’s fall, so you know what that means: helmets, touchdowns and Instagram. There is nothing more perfect than an after-game picture with your “number two on the field but number one in your heart” bae. We all know that if you aren’t spending your time trying to take the perfect Instagram pic, you’re just staring at the football players’ butts. #whatsafieldgoal. And come on, girls, the only reason you straighten your hair is for the pictures. Why else would you look cute for a football game?

But remember, you HAVE to post your picture first! Believe me, you’ll get more likes if you’re the first to show off your school pride. Selecting the right effect is vital. Sam James, junior, said, “I like Mayfair for the typical white girl picture, but Hudson or Valencia when I’m trying to aim for more of an artsy look.”

“Did Stacey make it to the last game? She didn’t Insta, so maybe she didn’t go,” is a phrase that can often be heard around town the following day. You have to make sure you post your picture on Instagram, or how else will anyone know you went to the game? It’s not like you’re actually supposed to talk to people there and watch the game; it’s all about the pictures. “But seriously, if Tracey gets more likes than me, I’m deleting my picture!” #asif #icanteven.

Make sure you take your time coming up with a clever caption. #schoolpride, #mightyhighlanders and #homesteadfootball are always witty captions. Charlotte Doering, sophomore, describes a flawless caption as “anything that shows the world that we won and have the best student section.” Everyone has to know that Homestead’s student section is superior to others, as if they don’t already know.

Be sure to pose in such a way that everyone knows you were having the best time of your life “watching” the fist-clenching football game. Lane Starrett, senior, describes her favorite pose, “I think the best pose is when you put your finger up to show that we are number one. Always original.” Striking the duck-face or open-mouth smile pose will guarantee at least a good 100 likes, because nothing says “fun” more than your best “I-just-saw-them-score-a-goal” expression. Football is all fun and games, but Instagram is the real competition, so remember, ladies, it’s not football season, it’s Instagram season.
