Sharing music in Spain (part 2)
“This spring break was Homestead orchestra’s third international tour. This year’s tour took place in Spain. The orchestra’s previous destinations were Russia, Finland, Vienna and Prague. Over 130 students and about 30 chaperones went on the trip, making the total amount of people around 160. We visited Madrid, Seville, Granada, Córdoba and Toledo. We played two concerts. One was in a city that was on the outskirts of Seville. The second one was in Toledo, which is in the middle of Spain.
The Spain tour was honestly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever participated in. To have been in a beautiful country surrounded by my best friends, with the opportunity to explore five different cities, try delicious food and interact with many Spanish locals, is something that is absolutely unforgettable. One of the best moments of the trip was this one realization that hit me. All I could think was, “Here I am, sitting in a gorgeous theater in the middle of Seville, making beautiful music with a group of Spanish kids my own age who are just as passionate about music as I am, thousands of miles away from my home being applauded and praised by strangers, experiencing something that only comes once in a lifetime.” (Kristina Smeshko, junior)
