Freshman Friday: Matthews aces her way into highschool

April 29, 2016

Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student population the opportunity to get to know its freshman class. Read below to learn about this week’s freshman, Anna Matthews.

Do you play any sports?

Yes. I have played volleyball since I was in sixth grade and I started playing on a competitive club team in seventh. I play for Wisconsin Premier during club season. As for school this year, I was lucky enough to play for the JV team for Homestead and I got to meet a lot of great people.

What is your favorite part about playing on the Homestead team?

I really like how it started in August, and I was able to meet some sophomores before starting the school year. It helped me to adjust to the change of high school because I felt better about knowing older kids. I also like the bus rides to and from games because that is where everyone became closer friends.

Do you have any siblings?

I have an older brother, Michael who is a senior at Homestead and a younger sister, Sarah who is a sixth grader at Steffen.

Do you have any pets?

I have a dog named Lucy. She is a seven-year old goldendoodle.

If you could be a sandwich, what type would you be?

I have to say that I would be a grilled cheese because that is the first thing my mother ever taught me to cook.

If you could fill an empty pool with anything what would it be?

I would definitely fill it with Swedish Fish. Mostly just because they are my favorite candy.

What has been your favorite part of high school so far?

I really enjoy going to the football games. I always have such a great time getting ready with my friends beforehand.

What are you looking forward to most in your next three years at Homestead?

I am mostly looking forward to all the memories that are to come. I am really excited to play more volleyball and meet more new people, but continuing to do well in my classes would be nice as well.
