Hinterstocker chosen as new Homestead athletic director

Mr. Erich Hinterstocker is chosen as the new athletic director for Homestead. In the past, Hinterstocker was the associate head women’s volleyball coach at Marquette University.

After Mr. Ryan Mangan, current athletic director, accepted a new position at Arrowhead High School, the Mequon Thiensville School District has been looking for a new athletic director for Homestead High School. After numerous interviews and applicants, Dr. Demond Means, superintendent, issued a press release naming Mr. Erich Hinterstocker as the new athletic director of Homestead.

According to Dr. Means’ press release, “[Hinterstocker] embraces a philosophy of teaching through sport, in which athletic programs are seen as opportunities for developing and demonstrating skill and athleticism, while recognizing that athletic programs also present unique opportunities to develop leadership traits, perseverance and teamwork.”

Hinterstocker has coached college level sports for many years; most recently, he has served as the associate head coach of the women’s volleyball team at Marquette University. Hinterstocker has been the associate head coach of Marquette’s women’s volleyball program for three seasons.

According to Marquette University’s website, “In his first season at Marquette, he helped see the squad to its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance with a 24-9 overall record… In year two with the Golden Eagles, he helped lead MU to its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, where Marquette advanced to the second round after defeating UNI in opening round play.”

Overall, Mr. Hinterstocker has experience coaching collegiate sports and has coached at many colleges including the University of Minnesota, Marquette University and North Dakota State University. Further, according to the district memo, Mr. Hinterstocker is a graduate of the Mequon-Thiensville School District and a product of its athletic programs.

“Mr. Hinterstocker places great value in establishing relationships and connections with schools and youth programs toward the goal of ensuring universally positive experiences for students. We believe that Mr. Hinterstocker’s vision for a world-class athletic experience in tandem with high quality education will provide opportunities for our young people to grow as leaders in our community and beyond,” Dr. Means said.
