Braun’s true love is baseball, but he also played for the Homestead boys volleyball team this year.

Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student population the opportunity to get to know its freshman class. Read below to learn about this week’s freshman, Connor Braun.

“My favorite sport is baseball, and it really is my passion.” Connor Braun, freshman, has been playing baseball since he was four years old, and has loved the game ever since.

“Baseball is where I have made many friendships to last a lifetime and have made more memories than I can count,” Braun said. “It gives me the control and focus that is transferable to other aspects of my life.”

Braun’s favorite position is outfield. “I enjoy playing outfield because I’m pretty fast and I am willing to dive and get dirty to make plays,” Braun said.

“My favorite memory from baseball was when I hit my first home run. The feeling you get as you round third base looking at your teammates crowded around home-plate ready to swarm you is a feeling like no other,” Braun said. “It was also a bonus to be playing at Helfaer Field, outside of Miller Park against our friendly rivals, HEAT.”

In addition to playing baseball, Braun has enjoyed the start of his high school career. “My favorite part about being in high school is the new friendships I have developed with other students, whether they are other freshman, sophomores, juniors or seniors,” Braun said. “They all played a big part in becoming a Highlander.”
Braun is looking forward to getting involved in his next three years at Homestead, and can’t wait to see what else the school has to offer!
