Students look forward to Lollapalooza
As summer approaches, so does music festival season. Summerfest, Lollapalooza and other fests are right around the corner and Homestead students are getting excited. Lollapalooza, a four-day music festival happens every year in Grant Park, Chicago. In 2010, Lollapalooza began to debut outside of the United States, in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany and France. This annual festival features popular alternative rock, pop, EDM, heavy metal, punk rock and hip hop artists and also features comedy performances and craft booths. Here are some of Homestead’s highlights from Lolla last year:
1. Incredible Music
“It’s an insane feeling to be around that many people who are there for the same reason you are, which is the love of music. You see so many backgrounds there and that is one of the reasons why I am excited to attend all four days this year,” Alexis Shutic, senior, said.
2. Experiencing the music with friends
“I had a ton of fun walking around and seeing all of my favorite artists and being with all of my friends,”Alex Halloran, senior, said.
3. The energy
“My first Lollapalooza was in 2015. I promised myself I would go every year since. It’s lit,” Silma Berrada, junior, said.
4. Amazing performances
“My favorite parts from Lolla ‘16 were seeing Chance the Rapper being brought out by Future during his set and being able to be in Chicago with Silma. I’m really excited for this year, especially for 21 Savage and Mac Demarco,” Nick Gouverneur, senior, said.
5. Favorite artists
“I love going because I get to see some of my favorite artists perform in an amazing place,” Savanna Campagna, junior, said.
This year’s Lollapalooza will occur on August 3-6 in Chicago. On Wednesday, March 22, the lineup was publically released and tickets went on sale that morning at 10 a.m. Some of the headliners include Chance the Rapper, The Killers, Muse, Arcade Fire, The XX and Lorde. The lineup proved very popular, with four-day passes and Saturday single tickets selling out within hours. Thursday, Friday and Sunday general admission tickets sold out shortly after. Many Homestead students managed to score tickets before they sold out and are pumped for this year’s shows.
“I’m really excited to go to Lollapalooza this year because I’ve never been before. Chicago is such a great city and the experience is going to be unforgettable,” Elisa Carranza, junior, said.
