Boys lacrosse beats Brookfield in first game of the season
Aspiring to have a season even more successful than the prior year, the boys lacrosse team took on their first opponent at home on Wednesday, March 29. The boys came out victorious in their game against Brookfield with a score of 10-7.
Though they started off slow, they eventually came back swinging. At the end of the second quarter, the boys were down 3-5. By the end of the third quarter, they were up 8-6.
Johnny Erpenbeck, Michael Fehrenbach, Jake Westreich, seniors, and Ryan Gerner, junior, each scored goals.
“I thought the game went really well. We started slow but turned things around and finished strong. I’m really excited about where this season can take us. I know that we will definitely be a great, competitive and energetic team that will be incredibly entertaining and successful this season. So, everybody should come on down and experience a game of hard-hitting, fast paced, Homestead lacrosse,” Westreich said.
In the second half of the game, Justin Albright, senior, stopped almost all of the shots. Gerner and Kevin Berridge, senior, also contributed to the success of the night by shutting down multiple opponents.
“The game went very well. Defense played well, and in the second half, offense really stepped it up. I am very proud of the team and how we finally began to mesh,” Berridge said.
With a tough season ahead, this comeback win helps build the team’s confidence.
“It was a slow start at first but after halftime we all pulled it together and were able to come back and get the win. It is a good tone setter for this season and we’re all really happy,” Albright said.
In the next couple months, the boys will return to home turf on the following dates: April 7 (Oneida Nation), April 19 (Kettle Moraine), April 21 (De Pere), April 28 (Mukwonago), May 4 (West Bend), May 9 (Milwaukee Lakeshore), May 16 (Oak Creek), May 18 (University-Milwaukee) and May 23 (Milwaukee-Marquette).
