According to the girls of the JV 1 lacrosse team, they are getting better and better with each game. On this particular sunny and breezy spring day on the Highlander turf, the girls overtook USM (the University School of Milwaukee) 10-3 Homestead. On Thursday, May 4 at 5:30 p.m. the girls had one of their best games of the season.

Team captain, Ginger Schwarz commented on the win, “Our team really demonstrated what it means to work together. We know how everyone plays and are able to feed off of that. We were able to play with intensity and fluidity which was able to transfer to scoring. I was really proud of how we were able to keep up the energy throughout the whole game” Schwarz said. The team captains this year are Schwarz, Lauren Grant and Morgan Bayer, seniors. Emily Polk is the spirit captain of the team as well.

As a team, “We worked the ball around to find the best option to score. It is fundamentals like working tighter that helps us to win games” Rachel Writz, junior, said. This was the teams fifth game of the season, putting their record at 3-2. This program is relatively new to Homestead, this only being the second year that it has been offered.

This game truly showcased how successful this program could be in the future, “From the start we came with full momentum and once we scored a few times we got in the flow of things. We knew going into this game against USM was going to go either way, but we took change at the start and kept up the high energy the whole game, which helped us win the game” Rachel Mortensen, junior, said.
