Annual Fútbol vs. Football event fights back against cancer
Fútbol vs. Football, the annual duel between the boys varsity football team and the girls varsity soccer team, took place on Friday, May 19. In a nail-biting game, the boys defeated the girls.
“I thought it was a really fun way to bring together two different teams that are competitive for a good cause. I thought it went really well regardless of who won,” Hannah Malicky, junior, said.
The annual tradition was started by Anna Strehlow as a way to raise money for cancer research. Each year, all proceeds of the game go towards a different cancer.
From the beginning of the game, both goalies: Jacob Boehlke, senior, and Malicky successfully blocked goals from the other team.
The score was close through the entirety of the game. At the end of time, the score was 3-3 and the game went into penalty kicks. The boys ended up winning in the penalty kick shootout 3-1.
“The game was fun for both teams and I believe we came together and had a good time playing. The best part of the game had to be the goals scored. I know the boys all got excited and ran on the field every time the ball hit the net,” Calum Joubert, senior, said.
As a whole, both teams enjoyed the competitive dual and enjoyed playing for a good cause.
“It was really fun to get another win with the guys out on that field again, especially over the girls that we share classes with,” Jake Westreich, senior, said.
