Hidden Gems of Thiensville: Sydney b. Children’s Boutique
Thiensville is a village in Ozaukee County, Wisc. with a population of 3,150. Although what some people might not realize is that Thiensville is filled with small businesses with intriguing stories and interesting backgrounds — this series will cover such hidden gems nestled in this quaint town.
Week 6: This week features an interview with Katya Voina, the store manager at Sydney b. Children’s Boutique. The boutique opened up in 2008 and has been expanding since. Customers go there to shop items from children’s clothing to toys to ballet shoes.
How did you get started: We got started after Anna’s, the store owner’s, daughter Sydney was born. Anna loved to shop for clothes for herself and for Sydney and thought it would be more convenient and a lot easier if she opened up a boutique. Sydney was her muse to start it all.
Why did you get started: The store opened up on May 1, 2008. Anna had already started her jewelry business, A.C. Zuckerman Jewelers, and she knew what retail was. She wanted to start more businesses. She started with a children’s clothing store and then expanded it into a toy store four years later. Then two years ago she opened up a dance portion of the store.
What makes your company unique: You can’t find any of the clothing we have at the store online or at other stores like Target and Amazon. The brand that supplies us and that we carry only makes stuff for little boutiques like us.
What do you want your customers to know: We have pretty much anything for kids and young adults, boys and girls. The clothes, toys, and everything we have in the store is very high quality and unique things that you can’t really find anywhere else.
Favorite thing in the store: Special occasion dresses for girls. I love them because it is usually connected with a fun occasion like a birthday, a graduation, or a daddy/daughter dance. It really tells a story and gets people really excited which is always great to see.
