Girls basketball chalks up a victory on the road
The Homestead girls varsity basketball team defeated Port Washington on Monday, Dec. 4 in Port Washington’s gymnasium with a final score of 42-30.
“I think we did pretty well this game. On our defense we did different things we didn’t do in previous games and really improved on them,” Cameron Buzzell, junior, gushed.
In the fourth quarter, Olivia Wasserman fought hard for the rebound and ended the play with a layup. Earlier on in the game, Sam Crivello, junior, scored four three-pointers all in the first half.
“I think the biggest highlight of the game was that even though some of us were in major foul trouble, we still stuck together and pulled out a win,” Crivello said.
Now three games into the season, the girls pushed through a tough Port Washington defense in order to win the game.
“We work a lot around our teamwork. You saw our bench. That’s part of our teamwork together. We really worked the ball around today. They played us in a zone, something we aren’t really used to, we’re still working on that. So I think our ball movement really helped us with our teamwork, “ Chloe Marotta, senior captain who is out this season with an ACL injury, said.
