A family creating lifelong bonds: Dance team
22 girls
6 hours a week
120 minutes a night
One team.
For the dance team, it is not just about winning. It’s about hard work, commitment and building strong relationships with each other.
“To be on dance team takes a lot of hard work and commitment. Since our season is so long, everyone needs to push through and continue to give it 100%. Also, the whole team needs to share the same mindset of wanting to achieve greatness,” Ally Wang, sophomore said.
Abi Check, junior, added, “The amount of time we spend together in practice, during competitions and outside of practice we have become a big family. Being so close makes going to practice more enjoyable.”
The team dynamic plays a huge role in how the team performs. Along with tight-knit relationships comes support and positivity.
“There is such a strong bond between all the girls on the dance team. You begin to develop friends from all grades, and the friendships in dance are not only in dance but outside of dance too. I can always count on my team to make me smile, laugh and be there for me when I need them,” Wang said.
Developing these friendships within the team has made a big impact whether it be building confidence in one another or just making everyone feel welcomed.
“The team has been very inclusive, and I’ve felt very welcomed. It’s really fun to get to bond with everyone,” Riley Kramer, freshman, said. At Homestead, the dance team is bigger than an art form; it is about the trials of friendship, hard work and perseverance.
