Jackson Rusch leads the pack in his long-distance event.

Homestead held the first JV track meet of the season this week on Wednesday, March 14. Boys and girls from all grades competed against athletes from Menomonee Falls, Grafton and Germantown.

The athletes were excited to get back in their groove. David Klein, sophomore, who runs the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash said,  “I’m looking forward to progressing this season as far as my times and as an overall student athlete as well as the camaraderie with the other track athletes.”

This year there is a new Homestead head coach for track, Brock Solveson.  Solveson attended Concordia University and first started participating in track and field while attending the university.  Though Homestead’s track and field team does not participate in a Javelin event, Solveson won two division three national championships in the event and was and All American five times.

Solveson is optimistic about the Homestead team and is set on being conference champions and getting four state qualifiers.

As for results from the meet, Coach Solveson noted that there were some timing issues; however, there was a notable performance by Jared Schneider, junior, in his first long jump of the year.

Following the meet Schneider said “I was happy with my performance an I hope to break the long jump record this season.”

The team looks to its next meet at Carthage College on Saturday.
