A game with a goal
At last night’s game, printed across the new lacrosse pinnies in white spelled out “Jace’s Warriors.” Jace Burke is Homestead High School’s athletic secretary Julie Burke’s grandson. Jace is a 4-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with cancer and has undergone two years of chemotherapy.
This game was played to honor Jace’s name and raise funds for his treatment expenditures. Through admissions costs, bucket passes, and concessions, this one game raised $1,158, all which will go to his family.
“I was really excited to play for him because I only hope to one day have the amount of bravery this 4-year-old boy has,” Brady Bartz, senior, said.
Julius Kellner, senior, said, “It is important to play for something and to have the opportunity to play for Jace was an honor. That kid has been through more than I will ever experience in my entire life. Being able to support him through the sport I love is a privilege.”
Not only did Homestead come away with funds for Jace’s family, but the boys also pulled through and won the game 11-3 against Notre Dame Academy.
