Creating bonds
Homestead is known for creating the adults of the future, but what is unknown is that it also creates seemingly perfect couples.
Tony Navarre, learning support coordinator, and Molly Navarre, freshman counselor, have a connection to each other and to Homestead that runs deep.
They met at Homestead in 2006. Tony was a new special education teacher and Molly was a special education teacher. Because he was new, Molly was brought on board to be his mentor. And that’s when it first started.
Teachers would hang out after school, but Tony took Molly out once to the Chancery for lunch. They started dating soon after.
Their dating period started in the “winter of 2006/2007,” according to Molly. It lasted a total of one and a half years before the Navarres decided to move forward with their relationship.
They got engaged in 2008 and were married on June 19, 2009.
When asked how he knew that Molly was the one, Tony said that it was gradual as he realized that they were “very compatible, so they might as well hang out together forever.”
They both talked about how they had similar personalities and similar interests.
The true strength in the bond of a relationship is illuminated when the relationship is strained. The immense strength in the Navarres’ bond was proven when tragedy struck the family.
Tony was diagnosed with Leukemia in March of 2011.
“There were moments where I truly didn’t think he was going to make it. But, I never gave up hope. Those days were some of the darkest of our lives, but I hope his story inspires others to never, ever give up hope,” Molly said
The Navarres were fortunate enough to find a bone marrow donor on Dec. 3, 2012. The recovery process was not easy, but with the support of each other, they made it through. They are immensely grateful that Tony is still alive today, 11 years after diagnosis.
The Navarres consider themselves fortunate to have had a blessed marriage and three wonderful children:an 11-year-old, a 6-year-old and a 5-year-old. They are grateful to have friends and family who look out for them too.
When Molly was asked what her favorite characteristic about Tony was, she responded, “He’s funny and doesn’t take things too seriously. Honestly, sometimes it’s super annoying. Most of the time it’s cool, though.”
Regarding his wife, Tony said both of them have “very similar interests.”
“She’s a Packer fan, so we have some of those things in common,” Tony said. “We are both athletic too.”
Tony was asked to guess Molly’s biggest pet peeve about him.
After some thought, he replied, “She is sometimes very stressed and anxious, and I’m the opposite and that’s probably her biggest pet peeve about me.”
Many couples argue over who wears the pants in the relationship. Not the Navarres though.
Tony said, “Her 100%.”
Molly agreed, “Me, for sure me.”
This couple has stuck together through thick and thin. “I couldn’t imagine life with anyone else,” Molly concluded.
