FIDM plans year-end fashion show
FIDM Club (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) is bringing a fashion show to the local level by incorporating upcycled pieces and students as models, designers and photographers.
Preparations started in January for the fashion show, which is on June 1, 2023 at 7 p.m. in the fieldhouse. This will be the second fashion show put on by the Club and they have already made some changes from last year’s program.
The first big change is that the club is working with Boz’s Closet in Thiensville. Club President Megan Carr, senior, said, “it will showcase their clothing as well as our styling abilities.” Much of the other clothing in the show is from the Goodwill bins, which the club took a trip to on March 19, 2023.
The club will not only be featuring the clothing from Boz’s Closet, but after the show the items will also be available for sale. These funds will go towards the club and allow them to hold more events in the future.
“The theme is more specific and centered around day and night and there are more people involved,” Club Vice President Emily Braunstein, senior, said.
The club held a poll in order to decide this year’s theme of day and night. This is a change from last year’s theme of outfits based on different songs and genres.
With a bigger hair and makeup team, the show will be able to hold more models, making it bigger than last year. To accommodate for this, Carr said, “we are changing the setup of the runway by adding another row of chairs. It will make it look and feel more runway-esque.”
The club is also working on advertising the fashion show in order to increase the number of attendees.
“I basically design all of the posts to get people to come to the club and events; that’s mainly how people find out about an event,” Jade Sondag, social media manager and junior, said.
Sondag added, “it’s hard to get recognized without advertising,” which is why the show is important for the FIDM Club.
