With Prom coming up on April 13 at Discovery World, Student Council supervisor Dawn Pfaff, along with the Prom committee, has been at work coming up with designs and decorations for the dance to match the theme of Golden Gala.
There have been over 425 tickets sold compared to the 500 sold the previous year, and with the previous year, there was a wait list.
“It will be noticeably nicer for the students. It will be more relaxed. Financially it will be a little tough. Everything should be ok. We should be able to make the necessary changes. We will find ways to make everything work,” Pfaff said.
Fewer students at Prom means a more relaxed night according to Pfaff, but the money does get a little tight for Student Council. “(It costs) $55 for food and 15% gratuity, $5 per can of soda, so it is an expensive night. We charge $90 to break even,” Pfaff said.
Mickey Vandermeuse and Alex Gaskin, juniors, both take charge with helping the Prom Committee. They are working with everyone to ensure everything runs smoothly.
“We are carefully planning this day each and every day that goes past,” Vandermeuse said.
With every day leading up to Prom, Gaskin said, “It is going to be great. We spent a lot of time and put a lot of thought into these decorations, but they are finally coming together.”
With the anticipated day coming up, Gaskin and Vandermeuse along with the rest of the Prom Committee, are finally able to see everything coming together.
“The 10 (students) that are coming are wonderful, amazing and working really hard.” Pfaff said regarding the students working on the committee. “It’s a small crew doing the work,” Pfaff said.
The theme of Golden Gala was brainstormed, voted on and chosen by the committee months ago.
“There is a lot of gold, black and white, keeping it classy. And then feathers and pearls and things like that, it’s going to be fun,” Gaskin said.
Having the designs and decorations coming together leading up to the night is exactly what the committee needs to succeed.
“I hope they think the evening is magical. Dressing up and eating a fancy meal is a right of passage,” Pfaff said. “I want kids to feel special; everything we do is to make kids feel special.”
“We are all always thinking about this event and how we can make one of the most special memories that people will cherish,” Vandermeuse said.
