Before their first game of the season on March 19, the boys lacrosse team was already well into their training plan. A combination of throwing, catching and footwork made up the basics of the teams training.
“As the season got closer we implemented offensive and defensive specific skills,” Jack Read, junior, said.
Read is a captain on varsity who has strong faith in the team this year. Read along with the other captains Austin Krueger and David Foster, seniors, agreed on the team goal of the season: work hard to make the playoffs and have the program’s first state appearance.
Along with the work put in through practice, the sense of community throughout the team reflects on the field.
“The offense and defense are always super competitive against each other. That aspect allows us to constantly push each other and consistently improve,” David Foster, senior, said.
Foster explained that the players bring out each other’s competitive side on the field, while being close off the field as well. The team has bonded since the beginning of pre-season making games and practices even more memorable.
As for the seniors on the team, they want to make the most of their final season, and to go out with their best season yet.
“I love the sport of lacrosse but my teammates and friendships that I have made along the way are most special to me. I love all the guys and it’ll be really tough to let them go,” Austin Krueger, senior, said.
Krueger said that it’s the people that he will miss most after this year. Next year he will be attending the University of Florida to study mechanical engineering. It has become undeniable that the seniors of the lacrosse team are soaking in every minute with their team as they dive into the season.
The team’s confidence has paid off, as they are coming off a six-game winning streak, their last game winning 14-4 against Bay Port. As currently undefeated, they face off next against USM away on April 19.
