Fear helps people avoid dangerous and harmful situations. However, fear can limit people’s growth, prevent risk-taking, being outgoing to new environments and opportunities. On the other hand, regret usually stems from past actions that a person wished they handled differently. Elaa Bishop, senior, shared her experiences of fear and regret and how it affected her life in positive and negative ways. Bishop stated her two biggest fears are the dark and losing her parents. Knowing these fears has increased her anxiety which prevents her from putting herself in new environments and opportunities. Bishop said, “It holds me back and changes my viewpoint of myself making me less confident and motivated in decisions I make leading into failure.” She added, “I get the feeling of regret more as I always think back on things in the past.” Bishop also shared , “It prevents a lot of good opportunities from negative thoughts.” To safeguard against the adverse results Bishop goes to therapy. In sharing her fears and regrets, she revealed her vulnerabilities and her incredible capacity for resilience and hope.
