Ms. Blackburn is an EL Specialist at Homestead. She has a deep passion for learning languages and especially enjoys reading books in Chinese. In her free time, she loves swing dancing, traveling, and listening to a mix of different music genres, including musicals, Irish music, indie, and K-pop.
She is an early riser, waking up around 5:30 AM even when she doesn’t have to work. Her daily routine includes coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.
Ms. Blackburn lived in Taiwan for over ten years and traveled extensively throughout Asia. However, her dream destination is Italy, where she hopes to experience the local cuisine. One of the most vivid memories of her life was arriving in Beijing during college. Everything—from the smells and buildings to the food and language—felt completely different from what she was used to. Despite studying Chinese for three years in the U.S., she realized she couldn’t understand a word people were saying!
At home, she has a black-and-white cat named DD. Interestingly, “DiDi” means “little brother” in Chinese, even though her cat is female. A fun fact about Ms. Blackburn is that she speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.
