The boys lacrosse team took the field again this spring as the season began with their first game against Franklin on April 2.
After last season’s success with many seniors leading the team, this season will be focused on orienting new players.
“Our biggest challenge is going to be rebuilding the culture that we had last year. The team last year had been playing with each other for the past three years. We want to build the same chemistry this year that the team last year had,” Jack Read, senior, said.
Nathan Bigonia, senior, goes on to describe this challenge as “growing pains. Many people have to step up to fill empty positions, and right now, we aren’t too sure who fits where.”
The team will look for underclassmen who are willing to step up.
“The goal of the team this year is to develop our players to be ready to make a run in the playoffs. With so many seniors having graduated there are many spots we are looking for players to fill,” Read said.
To help combat this challenge, the team’s goal will be to help build confidence and knowledge in the young players. Read states that the communal goal “this year is to develop our players to be ready to make a run in the playoffs.”
Personal goals are being devoted to making the team better.
“Personally I just want to get as good as I can to help the team,” Jack Weiss, sophomore, said. Bigonia concurs by saying, “My goal is to get as good as I can and make sure my team can rely on me to play well.”
The goals were made in hopes of ending the year with hardware.
“I think the biggest goal is to win a state championship,” Weiss said.
Relationships make this team special to the players.
“I am most looking forward to playing with my friends because that’s why I decided to join lax this season,” Bigonia said. Read comments that he is “looking forward to being able to play with [his] brother this season.”
The team takes the field next at their away game against WNS (Whitefish Bay High School, Nicolet High School, and Shorewood High School co-op team) on April 14.
