over. Then, like a spark in the dark, Blake Wichman, junior, seized his moment. Dodging past the defenders with his stick, he fired a shot that cut through the silence and found the back of the net. Game over.
Victory sealed.
A lacrosse legend was born in overtime
.
This is the story of Wichman’s game winner versus Wakausha High School.
This is the energy that the lacrosse team brings to this school.
Senior Captain Jack Read said, “It was a great finish by Wichman; I won’t ever forget it.”
Read also explained why this team plays such an important role in its success, mentioning how the year started on the right foot and continues to go that way.
After losing a huge senior class of players, Wichman explained, “We’re still figuring out how to find the click for our team, but I do believe we’re starting to figure it out.”
When Read was asked about the significant loss of seniors and how the team has overcome that obstacle, he said, “With the majority of last year’s team graduating, our main problem has been finding the people to fill the holes left in the team. This season, our captains and players who have leadership roles in the team have gone out recruiting players, but also helping younger guys make the next step. With it being a very young team, it’s hard to maintain focus in practice, but regardless, we make sure everyone spends the practice getting better. This has led to our team filling big holes left by last year’s senior class. I am excited to see where this season goes,” Read said.
The team has seen progress this year.
Assistant Coach Stephen Gregory said, “I think we have a good chance to make it a long way this year.”
A good start to the season is good, but a good finish is even better.
Wichman and Gregory both shared that they foresee a good playoff run.
Wichman and Read shared that they are in a good spot as a team right now, and they both know what is at stake.
Read commented, “If we all play together and have a good night, we can be one of the best teams.” Read said.
It seems as if this team hasn’t played its best game yet, and when they do, it’ll be memorable.
