Sofia Babakhanov, a senior at Homestead, has been committed to playing volleyball. Her passion for the sport has grown year after year. As a freshman, she began playing for the Homestead Girls Volleyball Team. Last October, she was playing on Varsity for the first year. They were in the first playoff game against Slinger. If Homestead won, they would advance to the next round. Babakhanov was hungry for the opportunity to play at the state tournament. The team played their hearts out and left everything on the court. Sadly, they lost, and their season came to an end. Babakhanov exclaimed, “Although we lost, I’m proud of my team. We ended our season with a fair and competitive match, and I wouldn’t want to play with anyone else.” Over the summer, she was in the gym, working out and practicing drills. She showed up and worked hard to improve her skills, and as a result, she was rewarded with the honor of being Team Captain.
