Last April, Maci Lemler, a senior, left school for a week to go and support her grandma in the hospital. Because Lemler is extremely close with her grandparents, a wave of worry rushed through her body when she heard the news. Her grandma has taught her to “become a better person.” As she grew closer to her sister throughout the years, she realized the connection she had with her, the support her sister gave her, no matter what, and all the things she has taught her. Having the type of relationship her parents have is her end goal in the future. Although family is fundamental to Lemler, she does swim. Doing it since she was eight years old, she’s come to both love and hate the sport. It has its downs, like never having enough time to go out with friends, or the general pressure a sport can give someone. The fear of failure or being a perfectionist comes with that, as well as the repetitiveness of everyday life, playing this sport. Lemler has learned to appreciate what she has and not take everything for granted.
