At the start of Addie Herklotz and Anna Prokhin’s senior year at Homestead High School (HHS), they shared what life had been like throughout high school.
Looking back at freshman year as a senior can bring up feelings of all sorts. Knowing that every senior can have different emotions looking back at their years at HHS, two seniors were asked to share some thoughts. Herklotz first shared about what it’s like for her to look back at her freshman year.
Herklotz said, “Walking into Homestead as a freshman, I felt overwhelmed. I was so scared… Everything was unfamiliar, and I didn’t know anyone, any of the upperclassmen, but now, as a senior walking in and it just feels like the most normal thing ever.”
Herklotz and Prokhin then talk about a moment they will never forget. Looking back at high school, they went into detail about some things that have caused a lasting impact on them.
Herklotz said, “Literally anything with my friends. Like the lunchroom or lunch table, the whole four years… all the chaos, the fun, the stress, and all my super close friends that I love dearly.”
Prokhin said, “I accidentally showed up to school one time on a late start day.”
Herklotz and Prokhin talk about how they feel when thinking about leaving high school in a few months and their thoughts about what the future holds. They’re both excited about what college holds, but know they’ll both have struggles leaving their friends.
Herklotz said, “I’m super excited for college. I’m excited for what’s next, but I’m also sad knowing that this part of my life is over and having to say goodbye to all my childhood friends. I’m so sad. But other than that, I’m excited.”
Prohkin said, “I feel a little scared and unsure about leaving high school and Homestead, but overall, I’m excited and relieved to be able to go to college soon. High school has made me open up more and be more accepting and understanding of the things in the people around me.”
