In this year’s annual Powder Puff game, held at Homestead High School on Wed, Oct. 8, the seniors claimed victory.
The seniors won by obtaining several touchdowns, and most of the plays were carried out as planned. During the game, they maintained possession of the ball, and while the juniors attempted to close the scoring gap, the seniors stayed in the lead.
The quarterback for the seniors this year, Lizzy Willis, participated in several of the plays during the game.
When asked who she thought would win from the beginning, she expressed her confidence and said, “No doubt, like no doubt at all, like we were beating them bad, and they had no idea what was coming for them.”
Gianna Omdahl, a junior on the opposing team, expressed her disappointment after the team’s loss. Omdahl also noted that she had higher expectations for her team’s communication skills.
She said, “Well, I feel like our team should communicate more as a whole, we should’ve just had more communication overall, and people should have been put in places based on what they’re good at, rather than just trying to be put in offense or defense, and people are so confused.”
Coach Sean Crider, the head coach for the seniors, has carried on with his involvement in this annual game. Crider had after-school practices to help prepare the team for the big game.
He said, “I love watching the girls have fun competing. It is also enjoyable to see all these girls who play different sports translate their skills to flag football. It just goes to show that athletes are athletes, no matter the sport.”
Crider also mentioned all of the struggles the seniors had, while including their strengths this year.
He said, “I thought the senior girls really did a good job at grabbing flags this year. We also did a good job of sharing time. We had a few girls who were unable to come to practice because of fall sport obligations, but we were still able to get them in the game.”
