Connor’s declassified football survival guide

Cedric Griffen, Vikings player, gazes from afar, watching his team lose in the waning seconds to the Green Bay Packers. “I’m going to miss whooping Cameron Marotta in fantasy football,” Nick Vandrisse, senior, said.

After over 21 grueling weeks of emotions, the NFL season is over. Whether your team won or not, you have to wait roughly five months until it starts back up again. So what will football fans fill five months of Sundays with for entertainment?

Now that your Sundays are wide open, maybe you can stop calling in sick and actually start working again .  Unless you’re banking on a hefty check for your birthday, now is the time to start saving up. “Now that football is over I’ll spend my Sundays working at Piggly Wiggly to save up on some Packer tickets for next year,” Beth Emery, junior, said.

Hockey could maybe serve as a sports substitute, even though Wisconsin does not have an official hockey team. The Milwaukee Admirals are always a great option, or you could head down to Chicago and watch the Blackhawks. The good news is that hockey is on almost every day, so you can spend every waking moment immersed in it. “I enjoy watching players get dangled out of their jock straps,” Riley Dixon, senior, said.

Basketball is another tantalizing sport, even though Wisconsin doesn’t seem like it has an official basketball team, the Bucks are amusing to watch, at times. Let’s face it, Bucks tickets are typically cheap and you can get to Milwaukee with ease from here, and just like hockey, there are multiple games a week, so there is no down time, ever.  “Personally the only reason I go to Bucks games is to watch the other team,” Nick Ziebell, senior, said.

Donald Driver, Packers wide-receiver, lays on the field injured after taking a big hit. "I'm going to miss watching the Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman interviews," Trever Cho, senior, said.

Netflix, movies, TV shows? What proves to be a killer lineup of movies this year, movies are always a great option, with a date or with a group of buddies, movies are a phenomenal way to blow off a good two hours on a slow Sunday.  Now, that Netflix is abundant with new shows and movies, you can spend your Sundays binge watching until you fall asleep.

However, nothing quite beats football, does it? You could start your draft party right away, buy all your favorite gear to get pumped for the draft down the road. Who wouldn’t want to spend their time building the perfect draft day party? Just think of the Melvin Gordon cookies to be made, the Marcus Mariota jerseys to be bought, the streamers to be thrown, the endless debates to be had on who should go number one and the celebrating when the Green Bay Packers pick another future Hall of Famer.  Joe Wasserman, junior, and fellow football fanatic will presumably spend his afternoons “running track, watching TV and crying if the Pack doesn’t win it all.”
