A night of musical artists, performances and, most importantly, awards, the 57th annual Grammys kicked off the night at 7 p.m. with a rocking performance by AC/DC. The Grammys are arguably the biggest night in music and as Christine Kerkman, senior, says, they “are fun to watch with the family.”

Delivering the first award of the night, Taylor Swift announced the coveted award, “Best New Artist” — an award she did not receive when she was nominated for it in the 2008 grammys — to Sam Smith. With other nominees such as Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark and Haim, there were many people hoping for their favorite artists to win. Thomas Sullivan, senior, said how he hoped “Iggy [would] win. I waited for six hours to be front row at her concert in October; she’s a great artist!”

Living up to its name as the biggest night in music, the show was packed full of performances. Just some of the artists who graced the stage were Ariana Grande, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Madonna, Kanye West, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran. These artists and many more kept the award show going with artistic performances, breaking up the awards and speaking with some live music.

As the night progressed more artists continued to receive grammys for their incredible music awarded by the academy. Most awards were also accompanied by an awkward acceptance speech which the artists thanked those who helped them achieve the award.

There were also a number of music duos that were a real treat. Match-ups like Kanye West, Paul McCartney and Rihanna singing their song “Four Five Seconds” continued to bring something new that people normally do not see. Duos like this just prove why people like Meghan Costigan, sophomore, “watch the Grammys every year to see [their] favorite artists perform in one night!”

The night ended with a stunning show from the queen bee herself, Beyoncé. In a solo performance, she left the audience in awe.
