Band festival celebrates all MTSD bands
Although the five bands that make up the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD) band program usually perform separately, they will have the opportunity this Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. to all come together to perform in the Annual MTSD Band Festival.
Through the festival, which takes place in the James Barr Auditorium, the fifth grade, sixth grade, seventh grade and eighth grade concert and symphonic bands will each perform one song on the stage. However, smaller ensembles will also showcase one song each in various places throughout the auditorium.
According to Drum Major Sarah McCarthy, senior, “It is a really great way to hear everything that is happening in all levels of band.”
Mr. Todd Spindler, high school band director, pointed out that the festival is different from any of the other band performances not only because of the wide range of age and talent displayed, but also because of its short length. “It’s an hour of continual music,” he said, “We don’t really even give audience members a chance to clap; we just start the next thing.”
Mr. Spindler added that, through the festival, “You can see what’s going on in the band world in one hour or less. It’s extremely entertaining, fast-paced and energetic.”
