Austin leaps through freshman year

February 20, 2015

The Sugar Plum fairies leaping across stage in pointe shoes, followed by ballerinas of many ages performing balances in cannon. This sight was an inspiration for Sage Austin, freshman. Austin is no beginner to the stage; she began the art of dance at age four, when “[her] mom signed [her] up for ballet.”

Her first plié and shuffle ball step was heard on the floor of the Milwaukee Ballet. Austin began to advance onto pointe, jazz and character dancing. “I really got influenced by the company dancers from Milwaukee Ballet,” Austin said.

To this day, Austin still recalls, “As a little girl I would go to the Nutcracker every year and I always had dreams of being the one up on stage dancing like they do.”
