The Homestead girls soccer squad moved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Port Washington on Tuesday night. Although it is early in the 2015 season, the team has already showcased loads of potential; this game was no exception.

The girls did not start out focused, leading to an early Port goal. After the goal, the girls fought hard to push their way back into the game. “Once Port scored the goal, that was pretty much our wake up call. After that, we started playing our game,” Christine Kerkman, senior, said.

Alex Lutz, junior, tallied three goals on the night and lead the scoring for the Highlanders, and along with Coco Wiencek, junior, helped as well. “Coco and Alex played very well and finished on many of their opportunities,” Coach Tony Navarre said.

Other scorers included Jordan Ellerbrock, junior, and Bridget West, sophomore.

After this game, the team believes they are off to a strong start. “I think I can speak for all of us, when I say I’m just very excited that the season has started and now we get to see what this team can do,” junior, Allie Haddad said.

With this early success, the girls look to use this momentum in their upcoming tournament at Ameche Field in Kenosha, WI. This tournament runs on Friday and Saturday of this week.
