Keep busy this fall
Autumn is the time of year when the beauty of nature is displayed with alluring colors and wet leaves. To keep busy and experience fall to the fullest, here is a list of things to do:
Fall in love with all of the fun and fascinating foliage in the great outdoors. Take a hike with your friends on the many trails offered at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Explore the wildlife and climb the tower for a beautiful view. Nicole Gauss, sophomore, said, “I remember going to the Audubon Center when I was in elementary school; it was very interesting.”
Spend a Saturday afternoon visiting the Barthel Fruit Farm in Mequon to pick delicious apples that make your mouth water. Since 1907, the Barthel Family has been growing apples and has been a historical asset to the community.
Decorate your room with fun do-it-yourselves and autumn decor. Rake up the colorful leaves and then jump in the pile. Nahyr Velazquez, senior, said, “One of my favorite things to do in autumn is to run while looking at the trees’ changing colors.”
Spice up plain recipes with a twist of cinnamon or pumpkin flavor. Bake a delicious apple or pumpkin pie with fresh farm-picked ingredients. Sara Imbrie, senior, said, “My favorite fall activity is baking because warm cookies on a cold day are always nice.”
Stop in at Bath and Body Works or Starbucks to grab a taste of the things that are offered only this time of year. “I love pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks,” Gauss said.
Devote a day to Jim’s Pumpkin Farm, where you can get lost in the corn maze and take a hayride with friends. Pick perfect pumpkins that can be turned into spooky faces that glow in the dark. Alison Griesch, junior, said, “My favorite things to do in the fall are going to haunted houses and pumpkin carving.”
