Alexis Silver, senior, poses with her father and Alex Uhan, her club coach, as she signs her NLI to join Tulane University’s Division I volleyball team in the Fall. “Alexis is one of the toughest competitors I have ever coached. She comes to the gym everyday to work hard on improving her game. She is also a great teammate. She always gets others to laugh and she has a smile so big it can light up the room with energy,” Uhan said.

After considering several collegiate volleyball programs, including Louisiana Tech, George Washington University and the University of Chicago, Alexis Silver, senior, has decided to head south, signing her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“I chose Tulane because I had a great connection with the coach and the girls on the team and everything felt right about the campus when I took my visit,” Silver said. “I can’t wait to be on campus and start practicing with the team.”

Along with being a four-year member of Homestead’s volleyball team, with two of those years on varsity, Silver has spent additional time on the court with her club team, Wisconsin Premier. She credits the coaches she has worked with in those programs for her success, saying, “Having coaches that were willing to consistently work with me on new skills and being versatile helped me develop the most.”

Silver’s coaches possess a similar level of respect for her, not only as a volleyball player, but also as a competitor, a student and a teammate. “What is going to make her successful in college is one, her academics. Alexis is a very smart kid and focuses on her studies, which will take her places in life. Two, her athleticism is one of the best I have seen. She is built tough and with a great vertical for the volleyball court. She always likes competing and has a winning attitude, which will make her a successful volleyball player in college,” Alex Uhan, Premier coach, said. “I have been honored and blessed that she came to play for me this year and even more happy we were able to get her a scholarship to a college she really wanted to attend.”

In addition to volleyball, Silver is excited to pursue her academic interests, hoping to study biomedical engineering. “I’m super excited to start the rest of my life in a new city and begin exploring my passions whether it be in academics or volleyball.”
