The boys lacrosse team lost to Arrowhead by a score of 10-4 on Tuesday, April 26.

After a hot start to the season, Homestead’s boys lacrosse team lost its second game of the year to a very powerful Arrowhead team by a score of 10-4 on Tuesday, April 26.

Arrowhead came out hard right away by scoring two goals in the first six minutes of the game. Then, Julius Kellner, sophomore, shot a rocket past the Warhawk goalie to make the score 2-1 about halfway through the first quarter.

After that, the Warhawks took control again, scoring three straight goals before Kellner netted his second goal of the game, making the score 5-2.

“Being able to score two goals in one game is very exciting for me. I was very happy to get my team going and to get them pumped up,” Kellner said. “It also is very cool that it was against a very good Arrowhead team. I was just very excited to be able to give my team a chance to come back and win.”

The Warhawks came back again, scoring another three goals in a row, making the score 8-2.

Halfway through the third quarter, Ryan Baranko, senior, put his shot in for another goal for the Highlanders, giving them another chance to come back. “Scoring a goal is always what I strive for. I wish I could’ve given my team a little more of a boost,” Baranko said.

Once again, Arrowhead scored another two goals in a row. However, towards the end of the fourth quarter, Cole Tietyen, sophomore, put in the Highlanders’ final goal, and the Warhawks came out with the 10-4 victory.

Even though the boys didn’t get the result they wanted, the team did many things well last night.

“Our team did really well on defense. This was definitely one of the best games we have had from a defensive perspective,” Jordan Kranich, senior, said. “However, we struggled with maintaining possession on offense and with winning the ground balls and faceoffs right off the bat.”

“I thought we possessed the ball well and played very good defense. We struggled due to getting too many penalties,” Andy Buchanan, junior, said.

Although the Highlanders didn’t come out on top in this game, it feels like this game has given them lots of motivation to keep working for the next game.

“This game makes us a lot hungrier. We hope to get all our injured people healed up and ready to go for Friday and get the win,” Buchanan said.

“We are looking forward to a quick and easy bounce back towards a win on Friday,” Kranich said. “We are just going to keep working hard and prove that we are a great team.”

“Coach Lavelle said it best at the end. He told us to take this loss and the feelings we have towards this loss and to isolate it and save it for the next time we play them. When we see these guys again in playoffs, we will only be better and smarter,” Kranich ended.
