Clay, characters, and Disney are three things that Robert Farrar, junior, loves. Farrar is very talented with clay.

According to his mother, Mrs.Robin Farrar, “we first noticed his artistic abilities about age four. He started out with PlayDough but got rather frustrated when it would dry out. So we tried modeling clay and he’s been making things ever since.”

His talent has grown ever since. Although Farrar has autism, it does not stop him from creating art.

Farrar moved from Nebraska to the MTSD school district in the fall of 2015, and has taken many art classes since he came to the district. “The art department at Homestead has been such a blessing and I’m so glad they continue to help him explore his abilities,” Mrs. Farrar said.

The art department has also been great for Farrar because other students include him. “The way students have worked with Robert has varied since entering the program. In ceramics often students would interact and provide guidance to help Robert complete his projects,” Mr. Joshua Hunt, art teacher, said.

Farrar has taken multiple art classes over the past year and a half. Due to his autism, it can be hard for Farrar to focus, but, when Farrar is molding with clay, he is very relaxed. In fact, he said working with clay helps keep him calm.

Farrar’s  teacher, Ms. Sarah Boeck, said when she first saw Robert’s creations. she “was amazed! I thought, ‘what a talented student’!”
