Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student population the opportunity to get to know its freshman class. Read below to learn about this week’s freshman, John Horter.

After spending his free time the way he typically does, hanging with his friends, John Horter, freshman, winds down by watching Netflix. “My favorite show is ‘Friday Night Tykes’ because I like to watch eight year olds play football,” Horter said.

Attempting to make the most of high school, Horter joined Spanish Club, the football and swim team. He plans on playing football for as long as he can. “I love football because it is my favorite sport and I love contact,” Horter said.

So far, high school has been enjoyable for Horter. “My favorite memory so far has been taking naps during study hall. High school is a lot different than I thought it would be. It’s a lot harder,” Horter said.

His favorite subject in school is math because it comes very easy to him. His least favorite subject is social studies because he thinks taking notes every night is unnecessary and he does not enjoy it.

He also loves the book Green Eggs and Ham because it is easy to read, the restaurant Noodles and eating steak.

Something most people don’t know about Horter is he used to live in California. He lived there for five years, from third to seventh grade, until his mom got relocated for her job, and they moved back here.

Though he is unsure of what speciality he wants to pursue, he knows for sure he wants to be some kind of doctor when he’s older. “I want to be a doctor because they make a lot of money,” Horter said.
